thought

[thought] As I was walking, I found out that I could change the way that people around me thought of myself.

This was one of the most powerful revalations I had ever had.

Of course, I didn't realize the nature of the transformation that had happened to me that day until much later. At the time, it scared me. It was only later that I realized that that really was the appropriate emotion. My transformation really would change my life for ever.

for some unknown reason i m actually going to try

For some unknown reason, I'm actually going to try and write down what I've done in a given day. (And hopefully what I've been thinking about.) I spent most of the first part of the day listening to discussions in bio200a about nuclear associated protiens, and then learned about cMyc and Mad<->Myc<->Max issues. I then got to hear from computing and communications briefly, while I was trying to codify my thoughts on a ideal form of government to replace the current system in this country. (I'm not succeding.)

I also went through and dealt with the PKC assay that was run on wednesday. Quite horrible, really. Not much that can be done about it but run it again. Then there were more e-mails to attend to and read the paper for the talk that I am giving on wednesday evening. (NO and NGF). One of these days I'll get the reference system working for my papers, so I can actually begin to remember what in the world I've read about these things scientificaly, but for now, I'll have to deal with my clearly inadequate brain.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I'm going to do once I'm out of grad school. I'll probably go into industry or something, but there are so many holes in my life to be taken care of before then. Maybe I'll be lucky soon, and some of the larger ones will be filled in. (I finished reading Aldris' Galaxies like grains of sand as well, and am working on space ship. Definetly not the most literary or science based SF writer, but occasionally he has interesting ideas that he sort of stumbles upon as if by accident.)

I worked on random stuff today. Trying to get a system in place to deal with all of these diary entries. I got to talk to Mandee for a bit. She's really hyper busy doing her own thing, which is cool. (I'm really busy, but not in any particularly defined schedule.)

Went to see the opening of St. James. Looks like they've done well for themselves with the new church. Spent some time reading papers and slept for about 11 hours. I'm finding that I need to sleep for almost 10 hours every day. Quite depressing.

today i wandered around depositing money into

Today I wandered around, depositing money into bank accounts, visiting HB and picking up my board, watching garbage tv, then comming back out to Rside.

I ended up seeing heist with my brother... it was a semi-decent movie, not terribly innovating. Some decent twists, acceptable acting, but nothing ground breaking, or especially worth seeing.

After that, I ended up working on my diary submission script some more. Hopefully I'll end up getting it working to some semi-reasonable degree.

sometimes at the end of the day i have no clue

Sometimes at the end of the day, I have no clue what I did during the day. Today was one of those days. Just millions of little tasks that had gotten piled up ontop of eachother... quite a few of them got taken care of today.

My room got cleaned slightly, and a whole bunch of loads of laundry got taken care of. My board got setup, and I started getting my papers for school organized. I know, it's already half way through the quarter, but I'm not really much for organization at all.

I also finally got the diary scripts working correctly, and rebuild the diaries, so this is probably the first newly updated diary entry that anyone else besides me is seeing.

my insanity is increasing daily i worked a bit on

My insanity is increasing daily. I worked a bit on my grant proposal for bio200a. It's comming extreemly slowly, partly because I'm stuck just getting started with the background. Hopefully it will work itself out sometime tomorrow.

Was hopeing to do something else besides work in the house today, but this rain agrees with working. Tomorrow it's time to make samples for a pkc assay, and I have nmr time over night on wednesday. Isn't life wonderful?

waking up for classes gets more and more difficult

Waking up for classes gets more and more difficult the longer the quarter goes on. Luckily, we're already half way through the quarter, so I won't have much longer to hold out.

I ended up seeing my professor's talk (quite decent) on chemokines and Eta signal transduction in primary brain endothelial cells, after going to my bio200a class earlier in the morning. Really need to get this paper for bio200a finished sometime today, but it's very slow going. At least I kind of know in which direction I should be heading now.

We'll see what sort of evils tomorrow brings to me.

ran a pkc assay today with the undergraduates in

Ran a PKC assay today with the undergraduates in my lab. Looks like it went fairly well. I'll really only know the results on friday. Hopefully it turned out.

I also did some more writing for my paper in Bio200a, trying to work out some more of the background information. I'm basically wading through some more of the papers that I need to do the background, and hopefully will have that and a good portion of the experimental part done by saturday. At least, that's the plan.

woke up went to class ran around taking care of

Woke up, went to class. Ran around taking care of stuff for the lab (starting samples, survey meter calibration). Picked up a paper that I was missing for my grant, and then went home, wrote some more, took a nap, read more, wrote more, ate, read more, wrote more.

It's quite odd to be spending a large portion of your time reading and writing. Up until recently, I spent most of my time actually doing active things. It will take some getting used to.

had a discussion for bio200a learned about

Had a discussion for bio200a, learned about whatever was talked about. (I'll definetly have to review the talks... think it was something about something or other... my brain is kind of fried.) Then came home and wrote and read and wrote some more.

Ended up wandering into back to the grind... they had a band there called Roxy that was semi-ok. Typical under trained band, crappy PA. The songs sounded like they definetly had potential to be good if they were well produced. (The bassist might have been good, but it sounded like he was content to just chill on the root instead of being slightly inventive, even in the bridge... drummist didn't realize how to switch stick heads to keep the volume at a level were he wouldn't be out competing the singer, but eh... those are all things that get taken care of when you have a semi-decent production crew running your shows... or you become an anal perfectionist audiophile who cringes at the sound of just about every system and band they hear. [Yes... I know, I should just enjoy the music and take a laxative or something...])

Then more reading, more writing, more reading, and more writing. I'm definetly headed for the nut farm.

more writing much more writing loads and loads
More writing. Much more writing. Loads and loads of writing and thinking. That's pretty much all that I did today. As I'm still new to this whole grant writing thing, and not an expert by any means on the area that I'm writing the grant on, it's taking quite a large amount of time to compile the evidence to support my hypothesis and develop the methodology to run the experiment in a competent manner. I know I'll get there, but it's taking quite a lot of time and effort.

woke up went to hear a good talk on engineering

Woke up, went to hear a good talk on engineering salt water tolerant plants by increasing the copynumber of the vacuolar Na+/H+ antiport. Looks like it might allow plants to be able to be grown quite effectively in high-salt environments. I ate lunch with the presenter, Dr. Eduardo Blumwald, pretty neat guy, masters in israel, phd in berkely, professor in toronto, and now at UC Davis.

Then it was back to my house for another round of writing and reading. I just about finished everything up before being unable to continue. (Sometime around 4A).

went to class this morning for bio200a learned

Went to class this morning for bio200a, learned about the movement of chromosomes and the formation of asters via dynein and kinesin, then went into by lab to finish off my grant.

I turned it in at 4:50, ten minutes before it was due, and then went home to attempt to deal with stuff that had been negleted during the writing of the grant. Managed to add the correct angle and an arrow head to my program that draws trans membrane helical wheels, so it's basically ready to produce journal quality figures. Also managed to talk to erik and some of the RCC's who are currently running the network that I adminstered over the past couple of years....

Continued reading The Name of the Rose, which seems to be a relatively decent book, although there are some gaps in the literary style of the authos, and crashed.

Got to sleep some today. Went to my NRSC seminar, and then went out to LA to listen to cade, and luis fs. Pretty decent time, got to talk with some people that I haven't talked with in some time.

Got back home sometime around 5.

woke up and set up and cut the door for the guest

Woke up, and set up and cut the door for the guest room, got the door almost correct (still need to plane a bit off of it). Installed the lock hardware, and patched up the hole left from the previous lock hardware.

Katie, the new occupant of the room, dropped off money and stuff. She'll be moving in on sunday. Ate at getaway with my aunt, came back and did some more work, prepared figures for a paper and fixed some problems with the helical wheel generator, and then went to bed.

woke up with a nasty head cold today always

Woke up with a nasty head cold today. Always annoying when that happens. Got the door finished for the room, wandered to home depot in the rain, got the white latex for the door, mark managed to spill some of it on his pant leg in the car with my help ;-(.

After two coats of paint on the door, it looks like a door should. (I've realized that I really hate dealing with doors.) Then more cleanup in the room, and waiting for the paint to dry enough for the door hardware to go on. Probably will have to wait until tomorrow for that.

Woke up super sick, but managed to finish getting the room ready. Seems that the heater is thrashed as well... kind of annoying. Wandered home and talked to my parents as well as dropping off some tools, came back and went to sleep early.

woke up got new memory slapped into my main

Woke up, got new memory slapped into my main machine (1.5G), wandered onto campus to get NMR started, did some reading and work in the lab, and then talked with Z at starbucks, came back, made dinner, and then kept the NMR stuff going.

Got to wake up at 8 to deal with it... (it's like 3A now...)

well at 8a it was time to get to campus to stop

well, at 8A it was time to get to campus to stop the NMR so someone could start running their samples at 9A. Did that, then came back, tried to eat something resembling a breakfast, and went back to campus for my class as 11A.

After class, I prepared samples for the PKC assay, and then started to read [http://www.actsofgord.com], a quite interesting website. Go me.

Then home, finished asimov's prelude to foundation, and have started reading foundation's edge, the current end to the fountation series. (I already read the trilogy...)

Ran the PKC assay today, worked with Dr.Z on putting together a story for our NMR paper, figuring out what figures needed to be done. Attended my NRSC seminar, and then came home to read.

All in all, a highly productive day.

Worked on some stuff for GM and my references suite, and read. Hopefully I'll get to campus tomorrow.

went to a discussion and heard about rop and ras

Went to a discussion and heard about Rop and Ras, proteins involved in signal transduction with GTPase activity. Too bad both papers were on virtually the same bit of the signal transduction patway and weren't terribly strong into a moduleation of the pathway via pharmacological agents.

Then picked up my grant after it was graded... didn't get butchered too badly. Collected data, ordered Hot ATP, and then came home to do some more work on my reference collector (which seems to be working well.) Chilled at starbucks for a bit, worked some more, and slept.
